January 2016 Lunch report and future events

As posted on Park Email today

JANUARY 2016 LUNCH

We had our Chapter 10 lunch today, January 8th at My Place. There were 27 people present including two visitors from Chapter 24, Pat and Nancy Patterson from the Red Bluff area of Northern California.
We had our meeting in the back room at My Place.  Last month we resurrected our practice of starting out lunch with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. We continued that and resurrected a past practice of singing Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary.   Happy Birthday this month to Nina Dobyns and Betty Posciri and Happy Anniversary to Ray and Stephanie Borgman.

We received an acknowledgment in December from CARE for our $500 contribution which was authorized by a vote at our last Rally.

FEBRUARY 2016 HOT DOG FEED AND AUCTION

Friday February 12, 2016 at noon at the Activity Center at Rainbow's End, Livingston, Texas.  Donations for the auction can be dropped off starting at 11 am.  Details are tentative and subject to change.

SPRING RALLY 2016

Our Spring Rally will be in Rusk, Texas at the Rusk KOA from Thursday March 31, 2016 to Monday April 4, 2016 (4 nights).  The rally rate is $40.40 per night.  People should make reservations on their own and say that they are with the Escapee Chapter 10 group.  You can add on days before or after the rally at the rally rate.  At the lunch it was recommended that you make reservations now, the park may fill up since it is the final weekend for the Dogwood Festival.  For this rally people should make reservations on their own directly with Rusk KOA, 903-683-6641. rather than using the KOA website.  We want to make sure you get the rally rate and a space assignment with our group as well as KOA points if you are a cardholder.

A variety of cabins are available at the Rusk KOA with varying capacity and amenities with base rates ranging from about $67 to $126.   See their website. https://koa.com, for cabin descriptions, but call Rusk KOA to make reservations and get rally rates.

Stephanie Borgman is monitoring the railroad website waiting for them to schedule trains for the weekend when we will be there.  We are anticipating a Saturday ride from Palestine to Rusk and back to Rusk.  When the schedule is set we will provide the schedule and how to make your reservation and the classes of tickets available. You may bring your own lunch or order a box lunch when you make your ticket reservations.  For more information see:
The agenda for other activities is still under development.  We will have our bring your own meat BBQ and potluck supper one night. Another night we will do LEO (Let's Eat Out).  Besides our Texas State Railroad trip, other possibilities include visiting Indian Mounds State Park, the Basket Factory in Jacksonville, and Eillenberger's Bakery and Mary of Puddin Hill in Palestine.  Other suggestions for day trips in the area are welcome.
