HOT DOG FEED and AUCTION - GREAT SUCCESS

We had a very successful Hot Dog Feed and auction on Friday (1/13/2017) at the Activity Center.  My personal thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make this all work and for everyone that participated.  From the people doing the procurement of the food and supplies to the auction team that included the auctioneer, helper, runners, and the ladies recording bids.   Everyone did a great job.

We had some very generous donors and bidders for the auction.

Thanks also to the people that helped to set up and clean up the Activity Center for this event and those who helped to prepare and serve the food.

Stephanie Borgman, our Wagonmaster made a presentation about our upcoming Spring Rally.  People are free to make reservations on their own directly with the Jamaica Beach RV Resort.   The rally is from Thursday March 30th through Sunday April 2nd.

We had a presentation by Lynda Hardin-Poston who is working to put together a cast  for a reality television show involving senior RVers.  A group meet with Lynda following the auction to discuss the venture further.

The photo shows our auction helper serving as a model wearing the Wizard of Oz Dorothy wig that was up for auction.

This event left me with a strong sense of community with people coming together for an enjoyable afternoon.

2017 SPRING RALLY

The Spring Rally will be from Thursday March 30 to Sunday April 2 in Galveston, TX at the Jamaica Beach RV Resort.
https://www.jbrv.net
17200 Termini-San Luis Pass Rd
Galveston, TX  77554
(409) 632-0200

Information from the park website:

All inclusive 30 , 50 amp, water, cable TV, Wifi, 2 Pool, Indoor Infinity Spa, Hot tub, Playground for the kids, clubhouse . All concrete pads with grass lawns and palm trees. Rated by Trailer Life as one of the top rated parks in North America. We are also

Rated 10/10/10 Good Sam 2014 and 2015,  as well as, AAA approved. The Jamaica Beach RV park is also located directly across the street from the beautiful sandy beaches of the Gulf here in Galveston Island.

We currently have 15 spaces reserved for us. Any spaces that we do not have booked by Thursday March 23, 2017 we will release.  We need a minimum of ten rigs to be able to use the rally room and therefore to conduct the rally. Stephanie is currently in negotiation with the park regarding whether she will be handling the reservations or if people will book directly with the park.  We hope to have that decided by the Hot Dog Feed on January 13th and provide an update at that time.   There are three different rate categories and the park will assign you to the correct category based on the space they assign to you.

Information from Stephanie on the three rate structures:

Here's the rate chart.  All spaces are pull through with full hook ups.  I am assuming (bad thing, I know) that the price difference is based on size and location.  I believe the Premium sites are all brand new.  My guess is that they are close to the new "lazy river."  The Standard and Deluxe sites are probably a matter of size and may or may not include amenities like a fire ring, bbq, picnic table, etc.  Our use of the clubhouse is our benefit rather than a special "rally rate."

Winter

This price includes a -10% for Good Sam, Trailer life, Taco, Military and senior discount and includes Tax.

Weekday:                       Standard  $39.70      Deluxe  $41.70      Premium  $44.70

Weekends:                     Standard  $45.20      Deluxe   $47.20     Premium  $50.20

This rate is for 2 people: extra adults  $5 Child (age 4 - 15) $3   //  3 and under free
1 vehicle allowed per site, each additional vehicle is $10.00 per site/per stay

We can eat breakfast at the park on Saturday for $4.  For Thursday night we can participate in the Park potluck or we can eat out.  We will likely have LEO (Lets Eat Out on Friday night and BYOM (Bring Your Own Meat) BBQ on Saturday night.  We can do the Men's pancake breakfast on Friday if we want.  I am in favor of doing the Men's breakfast on Friday.  I enjoy the fellowship at this event.   We will probably have one group event away from the park and enjoy the amenities at the park or travel individually or in small groups for other activities.   If you have strong preferences on anything regarding the schedule let Stephanie know before she finalizes the agenda.  We will set the rally fee when we finalize the agenda.  Time  for gathering in the Rally room for games of Wizard, Mexican Train, visiting with each other or other games will also be on the agenda.

There are hotels in the area for those who wish to attend but do not have a rig. One relatively inexpensive choice, which is where I (David Horton) will likely stay is the:
Days Inn
8712 Seawall Blvd,
Galveston, TX 77554
409-740-3000
located 12 miles (17 min) from the park.
The Google quoted price $42.

Possible Outings

The selection below provides some of the attractions/outings that Stephanie is considering for our Rally.  If you have any input or strong feelings about any of these please email Stephanie at randsborgman@gmail.com or attend the Hot Dog feed on January 13th at noon and provide your input.  Note: Stephanie often asks for input and often gets the feedback that whatever she decides is fine because she always does a good job.  Personally I like the idea of going to both The Bryan Museum and both films with lunch at Bubba Gump's

The two links are for the attractions we are considering.  We can go to one or both.  In order to get group pricing we have to have at least 10 people.  We could do the Bryan Museum on Friday afternoon then have dinner and leave Saturday for individual activities.  Or we could go to an early lunch at Fisherman's Wharf on Pier 21 on Saturday and then next door for the film and time to explore before returning to Jamaica Beach for our BYOM BBQ.  Doing either or both still leaves the evenings free for cards or whatever else anyone wants to do.

The Bryan Museum has only been open for a year or so.  We will have a guided tour if we guarantee a group of ten that is typically an hour and a half long.  Admission is $10 for Seniors an $12 for Adults.  The reviews are very good and the history of the building is unique.  Groups that have visited here often go to Bubba Gump's at the Pleasure Pier for lunch or dinner.  If we only do one activity this is our preference.

The film about the Storm of 1900 has been digitally upgraded to HD so even those who saw it years ago may be impressed at the detail of the images.  It is less than 30 minutes, but there is a second film (additional admission) about Jean Laffite that alternates with The Storm of 1900 and between the two the theater would take about an hour.  Each film is $6 per person so $12 for both, but a group discount is available.  If we go here we would go to Fisherman's Wharf for lunch and then anyone who wanted could go to the Elissa (1877 Tall Ship) and her museum next door or explore The Strand historical district.
