New Officers

Stephanie and Ray Borgman have stepped down as Wagon Masters.  For now Chapter 10 will continue without having rallies unless someone volunteers to be wagonmaster.  Cora and Bob Boyett have stepped down as Chapter Historian.  I am looking for a volunteer to take over that position for a year.

Dec 2017 Lunch and Business Meeting

Chapter 10 Lunch and Business Meeting - Next Friday

Chapter 10 will have their December 2017 lunch on at 1 p.m. Friday, December 8 at:

Lone Star Charlie's Family Restaurant
(On the right about 2.2 miles down the road from Hughes Catfish)

Image of restaurant sign and storefront - from Google Streetview

Our lunch will also include one of our twice a year business meetings.  We often have our business meetings during a Rally. I felt that we did not have enough people present at the Fall Rally to conduct a business meeting, especially considering some important decisions that need to be made.  As of the writing of this email we do not have any nominations or volunteers to serve as officers in Chapter 10.  Our President, Treasurer, and Secretary no longer wish to serve, they have all been officers for two years or more already. For now I am willing to continue as Vice-President.(David Horton).

Remember to wear your name badges.

BUSINESS MEETING AGENDA
  1. Nomination and election of officers if any are willing.
  2. Determine the fate of Chapter 10.  Possibly continue on a limited capacity,  lunches only. If empty positions are not filled determine the fate of Chapter 10.
  3. If Chapter 10 is to become inactive or disband, determine disposition of assets in accordance with the bylaws.

Let me or one of the other officers know if you are interested in serving as an officer or come to the meeting and nominate yourself.
.

INFORMATION

Here is a link to Coushatte Recreation Ranch,   https://www.coushatterv.com/
There is a Google map on the Contact Us page, but I couldn't manage to manipulate it so you could see the park layout and they don't have a park map.

Basically you come in through the entrance and follow the road as it veers to the left.  There is a small office building, but it is often unattended.  Beyond the office there are several streets with RV hookups.  The Stage Room and restrooms/showers are on the outside edge of the area as you continue on past the office and veer right.  Spaces are not reserved.  Find one you like and pull into it.  The closer you are to the Stage Room the more convenient for you.

I hope many Chapter 10 members as well as other Escapees and friends will join us.  It takes some effort to put a rally together, but we enjoy it and want to have as many people as possible be part of the fun.

Send an email to randsborgman@gmail.com telling us you are planning to attend and which days.  Give your rally fees to Bruce Horton or mail them to him at:

Chapter 10
115 Rainbow Drive #1532
Livingston, Texas  77399

Rally Fee is $20 per person and we need to have your fee in advance so we can cover our costs.

  (Breakdown   -   $5 to Chapter 10
                             $5 to CARE
$10 for Admission to Hemi Hideout)

Camping Rate - Credit cards are not accepted for camping
  $24 per day - Cash
  $26 per day - Check

Borgmans will collect camping fees on Wednesday evening after business meeting.  Do Not Pay on arrival for our rally.  We submit a group payment.

Attached is a jpg of the flyer for the Bluegrass Festival the week before our rally.  Festival tickets, etc. can be purchased in advance with a discount using a credit card.  The festival is run by a promoter, not by the ranch.  Camping during the festival is $20 per day and is probably payable with advance tickets or when your arrive to attend the festival.

Also attached is a pdf of the menu for the Café at Brookwood.  Since there are so many delicious sounding selections and a range of prices we decided to opt for individual tables with separate ordering and payment rather than banquet seating with only two entrée choices and a group bill which would require a larger rally fee.  I'd rather have you sitting in smaller groups than unhappy because you couldn't select what you wanted or it cost more than you wanted to spend.  I've heard all the variations of complaints on dinner venues and costs so it's better to have as many individual decisions as possible.

Coushatte has 250 spaces and doesn't take reservations.  You show up and pull into whatever is available and suits you. These are full hookup spaces with 50 amps.  They do not have cabins on site.  Here are the nearest local hotels I found doing a quick internet search: Budget Inn, 111 E Main St, Bellville (6.2 miles), (979) 865-9121; Javionte House, 304 W Chatham St, Bellville (6.2 miles), (979) 525-9034; Super 8 Sealy, 267 Gebhardt Rd, Sealy (12 miles), (979) 885-2121; Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 2370 TX-36, Sealy(13 miles), (979) 877-0700  If anyone finds a good hotel to use let me know and I will share it with the group.

As Ollie Haus will not be available, we will have the much larger Stage Room for our meetings/Rally Room.  Couple of things to mention, the sites at Coushatte do not have tables, BBQs or firepits.  The stage room has a full kitchen, but if we want to do a bring your own meat BBQ we will have to figure out what we are going to cook it on.

There is a Bluegrass Festival on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before the Rally.   During the festival the nightly rate is $20 cash.   The Borgmans, Ray and Stephanie, our wagonmasters intend to arrive at the park on the Wednesday before our Rally and attend the Bluegrass Festival.  http://www.txbluegrassmusic.com/product/caushatte-rv-ranch-pickin-grinnin-festival

Stephanie  booked a tour of the Hemi Hideout, http://www.hemihideout.com/, in Brookshire for Th, 11/2, at 9:30 am.  We should leave Coushatte by 8:45 am.  Fee is $5 per person cash and no one under 12 years.  They match all the money from tours and donate it to local charities.

After the tour we will have lunch at Brookwood Café, also in Brookshire.  The café is part of a community for developmentally disabled adults, http://www.brookwoodcommunity.org/ .  We will pick two selections from a menu to be supplied about 6 weeks before our visit.  Besides the café there are also a greenhouse, art gallery, and other attractions.  More about lunch later.

Stephanie also hopes to plan a trip to a craft brewery on a farm outside of Bellville.  Those who would like to tour Newman’s Castle (newmancastle.com)  (featured in the new Texas Highways) as we had planned for last year's cancelled rally could do so on their own. The tickets which include lunch are sold at the owner's bakery in Bellville.  There are many antique shops, galleries, etc. in the area.  I believe there are tours of the historic courthouse on Friday or Saturday.  For those inclined there are several restaurants in Bellville including one called Trump's that has been there for years.  Besides the bakery the castle owner also owns a butcher shop.

2017 SPRING RALLY

Thursday March 30 to Sunday April 2
17200 Termini-San Luis Pass Rd
Galveston, TX  77554

Information from the park website:

All inclusive 30 , 50 amp, water, cable TV, Wifi, 2 Pool, Indoor Infinity Spa, Hot tub, Playground for the kids, clubhouse . All concrete pads with grass lawns and palm trees. Rated by Trailer Life as one of the top rated parks in North America. We are also

Rated 10/10/10 Good Sam 2014 and 2015,  as well as, AAA approved. The Jamaica Beach RV park is also located directly across the street from the beautiful sandy beaches of the Gulf here in Galveston Island.

We currently have 15 spaces reserved for us. Any spaces that we do not have booked by Thursday March 23, 2017 we will release.  We need a minimum of ten rigs to be able to use the rally room and therefore to conduct the rally.   When Stephanie last checked with Jamaica Beach we had five rigs registered: Clyburn, Day, Horton, Blake, and Borgman.  Please call the park at the phone number above to reserve your space.  According to what I know the Jensens and the Duncans also have reservations at the Park and the Bells are definitely planning to go and may also have made their reservation this week.  That would mean that we currently have eight of the required ten minimum.
There are three different rate categories and the park will assign you to the correct category based on the space they assign to you.
Here's the rate chart.  All spaces are pull through with full hook ups.  Our use of the clubhouse is our benefit rather than a special "rally rate."

Winter

This price includes a -10% for Good Sam, Trailer life, Taco, Military and senior discount and includes Tax.

Weekday:                       Standard  $39.70      Deluxe  $41.70      Premium  $44.70

Weekends:                     Standard  $45.20      Deluxe   $47.20     Premium  $50.20

This rate is for 2 people: extra adults  $5 Child (age 4 - 15) $3   //  3 and under free
1 vehicle allowed per site, each additional vehicle is $10.00 per site/per stay

Thursday night you can participate in the Park potluck or you can eat out.  Following the Park potluck we will meet in the Rally room to conduct any necessary business and collect the rally fees which will be $25 per person.  The fee includes $10 for the guided tour or the Bryan Museum as well as $15 for Chapter 10 treasury which we use to cover expenses and finance our donations to CARE.  Following this Meet and Greet we will have our usual fun and games, ie. visiting, Wizard, Hand & Foot, Mexican Train, etc.

Friday breakfast and lunch are on your own.  During discussion at the February monthly meeting it was decided that we would not have a Men's Breakfast due to the logistics involved with folks coming directly to Galveston from Escapade in Arizona and no one being available to bring our chapter trailer.  At 1:15 pm we will gather to go to the Bryan Museum for our 2 pm tour.  The tour will take an hour to an hour and a half after which it is suggested that we allow another hour to explore those exhibits that caught your attention during the tour.  The gift shop is also said to have many interesting and unusual items.  We will have LEO (Lets Eat Out) on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm at Fisherman's Wharf.  This restaurant has plenty of onsite parking and they will validate for their customers.  (If you are not familiar with Galveston this area is also where you will come if you want to see the Great Storm and other films, tour the tall ship Elissa and her museum, or tour a drilling platform.)  After our early dinner we'll make our way back to the park for another evening of good fellowship.

You can eat breakfast at the park on Saturday for $4 or you can eat on your own. The day has been left free for you to do as you like.  Stay at the park and play miniature golf, float on the lazy river or walk across the Blue Water Highway and dip your toes into the Gulf of Mexico.  Go back into town and shop or do all things tourist.  There is too much to see and do in one weekend so be sure to make a list of things to do on your next visit.  A gas grill is available for our BYOM (Bring Your Own Meat) BBQ on Saturday night starting at 5:30 pm.  Besides your meat please bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share.  Cook if you like or feel free to pick something up at Kroger or one of the island delis or bakeries.  We don't want anyone missing the fun because they felt like they had to actually cook something!  Chapter 10 will supply ice and cold beverages, condiments, salad dressings, and paper towels.  Don't forget to bring your own table service; paper, plastic, or pottery - doesn't matter to us.  Just be sure you have a plate to put it on and cutlery to eat with.  A tumbler or mug is also a good idea.  After dinner there will again be time for gathering in the Rally room for fun and games.

Sunday morning there will be pastries available for our hitch-up breakfast.  We wish we didn't have to leave, but another rally is coming in right behind us.

The Bryan Museum has only been open for a year or so.  We will have a guided tour that is typically an hour and a half long.  Admission is $10 for Seniors and $12 for Adults.  The reviews are very good and the history of the building is unique.

The film about the Storm of 1900 has been digitally upgraded to HD so even those who saw it years ago may be impressed at the detail of the images.  It is less than 30 minutes, but there is a second film (additional admission) about Jean Laffite that alternates with The Storm of 1900 and between the two the theater would take about an hour.  Each film is $6 per person so $12 for both.
As mentioned above the tall ship Elissa is docked next to Fisherman's Wharf and there is also a oil drilling rig that has been set up for touring.
We will try to have packets for you from the Chamber of Commerce.  You may wish to tour the Bishop's Palace, Moody Gardens, the Moody Mansion, Pleasure Pier, the Opera House, the Railroad Museum, Lone Star Flight Museum, Schlitterbahn, the Strand, and much more.  Ride the free ferry at the east end of the island over to Bolivar Peninsula.  Dolphins frequently escort the ferry and while you're on the peninsula there are several great birding spots.  As you drive around town you will see sculptures carved from trees killed by the salt water intrusion of the flooding from Hurricane Ike.  Many are the work of James Phillips who exhibits at the Rene Wiley Gallery.
