Please remember to bring your name badges. I encourage wearing badges at all Escapee events, it helps everyone remember your name. If you need a name badge, you can get one made inexpensively at the Escapees Headquarters building at Rainbow's End.


Visitors and guests are encouraged to attend. You'll be made to feel welcome.


What to do to make this lunch a success.

  1. Sign up. To help ensure that we are prepared for the number of people that attend we are asking people to signup for the lunch.  Call me or send me an email at dhorton2@aol.com letting me know that you plan to attend. 936-327-5870 (land line) leave a message. 563-529-6181 ( cell - text - include your name(s) ) Or if it applies, reply to the ParkEmail or Chapter 10 email in which you received this message. Please let me know by Thursday at noon.

    1. DO NOT COME if you are feeling sick, have COVID-19, have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19 or had COVID-19 and you have not been cleared by your doctor,  or you are concerned it is too early or too risky for a gathering like this lunch. 

  2. The Escapees organization has not to my knowledge changed their recommendation/requirement that gatherings like this should not occur because of the pandemic.  Therefore this lunch gathering is not an official Escapee event. 

  3. No earlier than 12:30 - Do not enter the restaurant before 12:30 p.m.  I will be working with the restaurant to have the back room set up appropriately for our meeting taking social distancing into account. We will not be ready for members to enter until 12:30 p.m.

  4. Wear a mask into the restaurant and wear it at any time you are not maintaining social distancing. Bring some hand sanitizer for personal use and use it. 

  5. Wear your name badge.

We are resuming our monthly lunches on the second Friday of the month.   The September 2020 lunch will be Friday, September11, 2020 at 1 p.m. at:

Theme: 19th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States. Wearing something patriotic is appropriate and encouraged.

Chapter 10 lunch Friday 5/8/2020 at 1 p.m.


Chapter 10 will hold their monthly lunch this Friday, May 8th at 1 p.m. using Zoom.  A virtual rather than actual meeting.

Chapter 10 Spring 2020 Rally - postponed

Chapter 10 Spring 2020 Rally - postponed
The Chapter 10 rally planned for May 14th through 18th 2020 in Sulphur Louisiana is now officially postponed. We will try to have the rally in the fall or next spring. Dave Metzger, our Chapter 10 Vice-President notified Mike at the campground of the postponement. Mike said that he would cancel all of the reservations.

2020 Escapade Cancelled

This morning, our Escapees Board of Directors and our Escapade directors made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Escapade. Unfortunately this is not an April Fools joke.

Like many of our members, we look forward to each Escapade to reconnect with friends, make new friends, and enjoy our time together. However, we are confident that this is the best decision at this time based on a number of factors regarding the ongoing concerns with COVID-19. The health and safety of our members is our top priority.

If you were registered for Escapade, you will receive a full refund. You do not need to call or email to get your refund. Refunds will be issued automatically.

We are currently working with minimal staffing in order to do our part in limiting the spread of COVID-19. Please be patient with our staff as we are working through the refund process.

Chapter 10 March Lunch Today

Chapter 10 March Lunch Today
We met on Friday March 13th at La Casita for lunch.
Discussion:
  • We had 24 people present at lunch yesterday, including one guest Arlene Kimbel, who joined Chapter 10 today.
  • We opened with a Welcome to all, introduction of officers, Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag and a blessing on the food.
  • There were no birthdays or wedding anniversaries celebrated.
  • Kathy Metzger, a nurse and medical educator, our treasurer discussed proper hand washing techniques using soap and water or hand sanitizer and techniques to avoid spreading the COVID-19 virus.
  • I pointed out that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website providing information on the coronavirus pandemic is now easier to navigate to.  Just enter the address coronavirus.gov .  There are different strains of the coronavirus.  The current virus that is of concern is Corona Virus 2019 or COVID-19.  On the website you can find recommendations on hand washing, and techniques to avoid catching or spreading the virus.  The website also includes symptoms of infection with the virus and the recommendation to call your health care provider for advice if you think you are infected or have been exposed.You can signup for a weekly update newsletter on COVID-19 from the CDC on that website.
  • Yvonne Horton told the group that she called Shangri La Botanical gardens to inquire about their status to find out if we can go there for our Rally They have recovered from their Hurricane Harvey damage and are open for business.  They no longer charge for admission to the gardens or the bayou boat tour. Boat tours are only Mon-Friday. We are planning to go there on Friday.See the Spring Rally Section below for more details on the Rally..
  • Dave Metzger, our Vice-President, checked with those present on their status of making reservations for the Rally and discussed/asked what activities people want to do for the Rally.  Based on the number of people that have already signed up we should have a good turnout for the rally. 
  • I stated that as of now we do intend to have an April lunch and the May rally. As the time gets closer to each of those events the Chapter 10 Officers in light of the then-current COVID-19 status will determine whether to continue with the planned event or to postpone/cancel it.
  • Carolee Day made a presentation about celebrating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam war. 
  • We will  request that people sign up for the April lunch. Starting the Sunday before the lunch, a sign-up sheet will be available in the activity center or people can email me or call me with their reservation.

Spring Rally
Our Spring Rally will be Thursday May 14th through Monday the 18th 2020 in Sulphur, Louisiana. We have 16 sites blocked off for us at the: A+ Motel and RV Park, 4631 Highway 27 South, Sulphur, Louisiana 70665 337-583-2632 http://a-plusmotel.com/ 
Normally motel rates are higher for weekends,  but they have agreed to give us the weekday rate for all days. $79 per night. The rally rate for camping spots is $45 per night. Everyone should make their own reservations with the motel/park. We are asking people to make their reservations by 23 April.You can make your reservations now. At the lunch, we started a list of people planning to attend.  If you are not on that list, send me an email if you plan to attend the rally and tell me if you have already made your reservations.  
Individuals should talk to Mike at the Park when making rare sounds and tell him you are with the "Escapees Chapter 10" group.

Chapter 10 - Lunch Today 3/13/2020
Chapter 10 lunch is today at 1 p.m. at La Casita. 
Following the "Escapee" recommended policy that I posted yesterday,  we should avoid hugs and handshakes. Which I will miss dearly, instead replace it with a wave or a "virtual hug." I love to see all of my Chapter 10 friends at lunch,  but err on the side of caution and do not come if you are feeling at all sick.
