November 2019 Lunch

Chapter 10 Lunch
Our lunches are normally on the second Friday of the month.   The November lunch will be in two weeks on Friday November 8, 2019 at 1 p.m. at:

Please remember to bring your name badges. I encourage wearing badges at all Escapee events, helps everyone remember your name. If you need a name badge,  you can get one made inexpensively at the Escapees Headquarters building in Rainbow's End.

Visitors and guests are encouraged to attend. You'll be made to feel welcome.

Chapter 10 Lunch and Election - Oct 2019

Discussion
This meeting on October 11th was our business meeting and Election of Officers. 
  • We had 28 present including three first time visitors: Dave Conway and his wife Silky.  They are full-timers and based on discussions at the meeting they hope to sign up for one of the upcoming Boot Camps at Rainbow's End.  Rancher Ethan also attended for the first time, he has been a volunteer at CARE.
  • We did not celebrate any October birthdays,  but did celebrate Dave and Kathy Metzger's Wedding Anniversary of 31 October.
  • We had a reading of the minutes from our last business meeting which occurred at the Spring Rally. 
  • We held an election of officers.   We did not have any nominations for a new President or Vice-President. I, David Horton agreed to continue to be President and Dave Metzger agreed to continue as Vice-President.  The group approved these re-elections. Kathy Metzger self-nominated to be the Treasurer. Solita Collard self-nominated to be Secretary. Kathy and Solita's nominations were approved and they were elected as Treasurer and Secretary. 
  • We briefly discussed the desire for a Spring Rally. 
  • Crystal Saulters from CARE made a presentation about Octoberfest which will be Wednesday October 16th at the Activity Centers.   Activities include: Market Day, Annual Bake Auction and Beer Garden. More volunteers are needed, Contact Crystal at CARE to volunteer.  936-327-4256 ext 106 or carevc@escapees.com
  • Bruce Horton provided some updates on CARE including work on 14 new RV sites and negotiations to open a clinic in the new year at Pearl's Cottage with Dr. Sandra Hutchison as the doctor. 
  • We had some wide ranging discussions about the upcoming Escapade,  Boot Camps, HOPs (Head Out Program) travel trips, Annual Hot Dog Lunch and Membership Drive in January, Quartzite, what is a Chapter, and the history of Chapter 10 and Chapters in general.

Discussion
For our September lunch,  we had 21 people present including three first time guests. We celebrated Stephan's birthday.  Russ Johnson told us about the upcoming Octoberfest at Rainbow's End on Wednesday October 16th. Anna Graham discussed the potluck and entertainment next Saturday starting at noon at the Club house. A question was asked about whether the Chapter would pay the Escapade fee for our Row representative.  We have done this in the past and likely would do so for next year's Escapade. We are looking for a Chapter 10 Row representative. We decided to not have a Fall Rally this year and will try to put together a Spring Rally, likely in early April. We were considering a Fall rally in the Orange, Texas area but Dave Metzger reported that the RV park we were considering is still recovering from storm damage and is not accepting group reservations.  Also, the Stark House that we were considering visiting is closed for renovations. We will have our annual election of officers at next month's Lunch. We still need a nominee or nominees for Secretary.

Escapees - Chapter 10 - Welcome

Periodically I get a list of new Escapees that are interested in finding out about the Chapters and the BoFs. Here is what I sent out this morning to that group. Reminder: Chapter 10 lunch is a week from Friday, see information below. David Horton

Escapees - Chapter 10 - Welcome
Good morning, 

Let me introduce myself,  I am David Horton the President of Escapees Chapter 10.  Welcome to the Escapees!

The 'Chapters' are part of the social arm of the Escapees. The chapters are geographically designated.   Chapter 10, the Rainbow Chapter, contains many members from the Rainbow's End Escapee Park in Livingston, TX.  Our designated geographical area is East Texas and Louisiana. It does not matter what your mailing address is or where you consider your home base, you can join any chapter you want to join or more than one if you are so inclined. You can get information about the Chapters in the Escapees magazine which is published every other month. Included are lunch gathering and rally information. 

We have a monthly lunch where we get together and socialize.  The lunch is the second Friday of the month at 1 pm. Our current semi- permanent location for lunch is La Casita:

Come join us on Friday September 13th at 1 p.m. if you are in the area.  As a guest or visitor you will be made to feel welcome. 

We try to have a Chapter rally in the Spring and the Fall.  This Spring we had a rally in Eunice, LA. Come join us at a lunch or rally if you like.

Chapter 10 Update - Permanent lunch location

Chapter 10 Update
We had our July Chapter 10 lunch on Friday July 12th at La Casita.  We had 23 present including two new Escapees, Johnny and Tracy Bercengeay.  I am glad that Johnny and Tracy were able to join us.

Dave Metzger,  our Chapter Vice-President,  has the duty of arranging our lunch location. He stated that he would like to make La Casita our regular venue. La Casita is a very good location because they have a large private room that we use where attendees can hear what is being said. Until further notice,  La Casita will be our Lunch location on the second Friday of the month at 1 pm unless otherwise notified.

We discussed elections for Chapter officers this fall.   Both Dave Metzger and I started that we would be willing to continue in our present positions of Vice President and President.  Kathy Metzger, after the meeting, nominated herself for the position of treasurer and I accepted her nomination. We are still looking for a nominee or nominees for Secretary. Being the Chapter Secretary is not a difficult or time consuming duty.  If you have someone to nominate or want to nominate yourself let me know, or make it be known at the next lunch. Dave Metzger also stated we need a volunter or a couple to be our wagon masters.

Jim Weston at our Spring Rally had volunteered to do some research on a possible rally in Orange Texas.  He made a presentation that included a recommendation to view the Stark House and Shangri La Gardens. We had a rally previously where we visited the Shangri La Gardens.   I intensely enjoyed the guided Bayou tour and I am ready to go on it again if the group decides to go.
